Sell Your Car in Canada
Looking to sell your current vehicle? Your Approval helps you connect with participating dealers that can assess your vehicle's value. Whether you want to sell outright or trade in toward your next purchase, our application makes it easy to get started.
Selling or Trading In Your Vehicle
There are two main ways to sell your vehicle through participating dealers:
- Trade-in — Apply your vehicle's value toward the purchase of a different vehicle
- Outright sale — Sell your vehicle to a dealer without purchasing a replacement
What Information to Provide
When completing the application, provide as much detail as possible about your current vehicle:
- Year, make, model, and trim
- Kilometres
- Vehicle condition (excellent, good, fair, poor)
- Ownership status (owned outright, financed, or leased)
- VIN (if available)
- Accident history
How Vehicle Value Is Assessed
Participating dealers assess vehicle value based on:
- Current market value of the vehicle
- Vehicle condition and kilometres
- Accident and repair history
- Outstanding loan balance (if financed)
- Local market demand
We do not guarantee specific values. After your application is reviewed, a participating dealer can provide an assessment based on your vehicle's details.
Selling a Financed Vehicle
If you still owe money on your vehicle, you can still sell or trade it in. The outstanding balance will be factored into the transaction. Depending on the vehicle's value and your remaining balance, you may have positive equity (vehicle worth more than the loan) or negative equity (loan balance exceeds vehicle value).
